What it means
This publication’s editorial stance: apply the same evidential standards to optimistic and pessimistic claims, including our own. “Center” describes independence from the two rhetorical camps, not a rule that the true answer must lie halfway between them. It is not a recognized scientific school.
The strongest case
Consistent standards allow a useful tool and a real risk to be recognized at the same time. They also allow a particular debate to be decisively one-sided when that is what the evidence supports.
The difficult part
The posture can become its own vanity: treating detachment as wisdom, demanding impossible certainty only from critics, or selecting convenient extremes. It must be judged by specific claims, corrections and sources, not our flattering description of ourselves.
